How do you make the whites appear with such glow from your drawings?  Do you just adjust the settings post scan or do you use a specific method?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Well most of the time I start off isolating the ''dark'' areas and leaving off white areas. This drawing looks very similar to the original, but I do use Photoshop every time I take a picture with my camera to sharpen the image and bring more contrast. This one was scanned so I dont think I used photoshop on it. But I use a couple of different erasers now for lighting and smooth gradient and shades, this is an old drawing though so I didnt know any of that stuff at the time. I think I used cotton on this one for the smooth areas.

mine shaft? Let me guess, charcoal? each time I use charcoal it's everywhere... walls, light switches, doorknobs everything on my way has black smears.
But it's blackest then most of pencils and spreads on paper faster and easier. It gives the drawing the sticky, tangible darkness effect that I love. Great drawing!

Precisely. I started out the drawing and finished it all in pencil, but then i felt that it didnt give me the atmosphere that i wanted so i went over it with charcoal.
